The Cadell Harvest Festival is one of the traditional country fairs of yesteryear with competitions for everyone including local preserve and home made brew competitions, orange and carp throwing, grape tossing, cockroach racing, a massive children’s Easter Egg Hunt and the major event, the Murray River Giant Pumpkin competition.
The Murray River Giant Pumpkin Competition has reached world-wide recognition with interest from across the globe and has been registered with the ‘Great Pumpkin Commonwealth’ accredited association.
Five years ago MGA Insurance Brokers, donated a prize for the grower of the heaviest pumpkin* to attend the Half Moon Bay Pumpkin and Art Festival near San Francisco which has driven this competition to a new level of appeal, creating many amateur growers across the Nation. There are 10 prizes in categories from Prettiest Pumpkin to Ugliest Pumpkin, so dress up your Queensland Blue, Butternut, or Squash for the novelty section!
In 2011 Dale Oliver travelled the long distance from Byron Bay to deliver his pumpkin weighing in at an amazing 390kg and won first prize. His record has never been broken, perhaps 2018 is the year to do it!
This year we have live entertainment with the return of the fabulous Mick Kelly, local wine tastings, food and produce stalls and cooking demonstrations. As well as mobile laser skirmish!
Don’t miss the Easter Saturday event at the Cadell Oval, only two hours from Adelaide on the magnificent Murray River. Entry is only $5.00 and children under 15 are free.
We would like to thank our prize sponsors: MGA Insurance Brokers; Cadell Club; Riverland Broadcasters (5RM and Magic FM); Waikerie Honda; Sons of the Southern Cross SMC; Illilangi Gourmet Foods; Morgan Roadhouse; Barnett’s Store; Spook Hill Wines; and Jim’s Computers.
